Free Tech Tip from Jim Kelleher
Looping on the back... A common problem I see, that can be easily avoided, is looping on the back of your fabric. When the thread is not fully seated in the tension disks it causes the hook to consume more thread than it can take. This holds true for all machines, including sergers. To avoid this, thread the machine with the presser foot up (this opens the tension unit). Thread through all of the guides and stop at the needle bar guide. Hold the thread at the spool with your right hand and pull tight with your left hand. This will ensure the thread is getting down into the tension disks. Now lower the presser foot, and pull the thread for about three inches, making sure there is a fair amount of resistance. Now thread your needle. Making this a consistent routine will ensure hassle free, enjoyable sewing.
