Taking a Beginner Sewing Class at Aurora Sewing Center
Aurora Sewing Center offers over 300 different sewing, quilting, and embroidery project classes per year to accommodate ages 7 and up and every skill level. Taking a class at Aurora Sewing Center is fun and exciting.
For every class, whether you’re learning to quilt, learning to make garments, or just beginning and learning to sew, you should be prepared to bring basic sewing supplies with you, including:
- Sewing Machine with bobbin, needles, presser foot, power cord, and foot pedal
- Scissors, large & small
- Thread (Aurifil 50 wt or METROSENE is perfect for beginner projects)
- Glass Head Pins
- Seam Ripper
- Rotary Cutter
- Frixon Pen, fabric marker, or chalk
If you do not have an item listed above, you can purchase them from Aurora Sewing Center at a discount of 15%, make sure the cashier knows you are purchasing supplies for a class. There may be other supplies required for the class you’ve signed up for, including the project pattern and any specialized items. A complete list of these items will be emailed to you from our registration system within 48 hours of signing up for the class online.
If you do not own a sewing machine, we do have a limited number of classroom sewing machines available for use during our beginner classes. If you would like to reserve a classroom sewing machine at no additional cost, please call the store and they will reserve one for you.
If this is your first class, it is also a good idea to show up at least 15 minutes early and introduce yourself to the teacher who can help you get settled and feel confident before class begins. Making sure you are prepared and communicating with your teacher will ensure you’ll have fun while learn a new technique or skill!
