The 5.5 mm needle plate solution for your 9 mm Bernina 8-series machine.  This stitch plate's benefits:

This stitch plate is used on the 8-series machines (designed for a 9 mm stitch width), but the needle plate's stitch hole is only 5.5 mm wide, and this plate was specially designed for the 8-Series machines.  Its special feature is the narrow needle opening, which prevents thin or soft fabrics from being pulled through the hole while sewing. It is therefore ideal for sewing decorative stitches with a width of up to 5.5 mm.
